Marimekko is an extremely famous and globally recognized brand, renowned for its distinctive designs of vibrant prints that you have surely seen. Although Scandinavian design is often associated with minimalism and sobriety, Marimekko, a brand originating from Finland, stands out for its bold and flowery print designs that come to life in summer, offering a stark contrast to the typically frosty and snowy landscape of the country. The use of color in their designs is both naive and splendid. 'Mekko' means skirt in Finnish, and 'Mari' is the most common girl's name in Finland, equivalent to Maria. Thus, Marimekko translates to 'Maria's skirt', symbolizing joy and freedom. This is the energy that Marimekko hopes to infuse into people's lives with its lively and joyful designs. The art, design, and lifestyle represented by Marimekko have become deeply rooted in Finnish culture, making it a beloved brand among the people.

Recently, Marimekko and The Beast, a home decor brand that has become popular in China in recent years, launched a series of home products, displayed at The Beast's flagship store on Anfu Road (Shanghai).

Perhaps the most famous print of Marimekko is 'Unikko', a large bright red poppy that is the highlight of this 'HAPPY TOGETHER' collection. The fabrics with the pattern are used in clothing, tablecloths of various sizes and colors, bedding, and other household items, breaking the boundaries between clothing and home, and presenting a wealth of products that can meet people's daily needs in all aspects.

We at nesso.design studio are very honored to be the partner of Marimekko's pop-up series in Shanghai and Beijing, and to participate in the design and construction of the exhibition spaces.

During our collaboration with Marimekko, we learned that the Marimekko design team works closely with product development and print experts, and many of the ideas originate in the printed fabric factory in Helsinki, which uses both traditional overlay dyeing technologies and modern digital printing processes. It is here that all the beautiful fabrics begin.
